UK Valentine

6 of the best ways to spend Valentine’s Day in the UK

February 14th is the one day of the year when you absolutely must devote yourself to your loved one, whether you’re in a new relationship and want to woo your partner with your romantic charms, or you’ve been married for years and want to bring a spark back into your love life. For those that are going to be in the UK this February, here are six of the most romantic ways to spend Valentine’s Day.

Romantic meal

A romantic meal is probably the most obvious choice for Valentine’s Day, but it’s always a winner. Instead of just going down to your usual pizzeria or Chinese restaurant, how about searching for the local Michelin-starred and award-winning eateries and treating your other half to something extra special? It’s always worth booking well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Seaside

Take a trip to one of the UK’s fantastic coastal towns or cities. Visit bohemian Brighton and sail into the sea or peruse the quirky shops and bars. Or you could stay in a Blackpool bed and breakfast and play arcade games on the pier, check out the illuminations and embrace the quaint tackiness of one of England’s most famous tourist destinations.

Countryside getaway

You don’t need to leave the UK to have a great holiday: there are plenty of places to visit on our shores. Rent a cottage in the Lake District and go for some fine dining, long countryside walks, and sailing outings on the many lakes. Take a trip to Cornwall and (if you’re really lucky) catch some early sunshine. There’s nothing more romantic than a stroll along the beautiful coastline.

Stay in

You don’t actually have to go out – you could make your pad look respectable, get some beautiful flowers and candles, put some midnight moods music on the stereo, crack open a bottle of wine and cook a delicious meal. Later on you might want to watch a horror movie and get cosy on the sofa, or run a bubble bath.

Tourist city trip

How about jumping on a train and staying in the city for a few nights. Go to London and be wined and dined; watch a musical in the West End and visit famous tourist attractions such as the London Eye and Buckingham Palace. Or perhaps Edinburgh is more your scene, with a romantic walk around the famous castle and an evening trip to watch some stand-up comedy.

Experience days

An unusual, fun way to spend the Valentine’s Day weekend is going on experience days such as a trip to the races, a pampering day at a spa, a personal photo shoot or an adventurous outdoor-pursuits activity. These activity days are increasingly popular, easy to book, and don’t just make good 21st birthday gift ideas – they can actually add a really original twist to a Valentine’s Day date.
