I am a massive fan of skiing, and I try to go every year. The cost just keeps rising though, and these days I ten to avoid the pricey French Alps. This year I decided to try somewhere a bit different, but with a great ski record. I decided that it was high time I gave Austria a chance. The snow records in Austria were really second to none in the Alps, perhaps other than the pricey Norway, but the only problem I had with the Austrian Alps was the Altitude. In the French Alps it is not unusual for some of the resorts to climb above three thousand metres, and this generally means longer runs. In Austria you were lucky if you made it to two thousand feet. Granted, the villages were at a lower level, but there was a definite difference. Despite this I decided to investigate.

I discovered there were numerous ways to get to the Austrian Alps, and in the end I went with a flight to Frankfurt in Germany, followed by a coach ride as a transfer. I found some cheap flights to Frankfurt and this made the journey cost quite a bit less.

When I got to Austria, I could tell that the skiing would be great. There was fresh snow, and I could see people coming off the runs and talking excitedly about the great conditions. After getting up there myself, after about an hour Austria had me convinced. The skiing was great, and what it lacked in long runs, it made up for in challenging blacks, and a hair raising jump park!
