Moscow, known for its unique architecture, rich history, and unique landmarks can be an excellent tourist destination during certain times of the year. A relatively safe city for travellers, the greatest concern about travel in Moscow is the sometimes extreme climate. With the first snow appearing in October and the city’s hot humid summers, it can be difficult to find a comfortable time to visit the city. With that in mind, Moscow is hardly known as a relaxation destination, and as such there is little reason for a would-be traveller to allow the sometimes harsh climate to get the better of them.

Transportation in Moscow is relatively efficient, with a fairly well maintained and prevalent Metro bus system. Taxicab transport is another easy and economical option. The official taxicabs are relatively inexpensive compared to some other tourist destinations. The relative safety of Moscow has led some private citizens to pick up passengers in the hope of earning a few extra roubles on the way home. While an unlicensed cab is often a bad idea, it is less of an issue in Moscow.

Hotels range in price significantly and are well known for overcharging foreigners for entertainment, food, and drink. Mercer Human Resource Consulting listed Moscow as the most expensive city for foreign visitors, with credit cards rarely being accepted. Cash is important to carry for these sorts of things, and should be held in ample supply.
